Photographing the wedding ceremony is the center, the cornerstone of what a wedding photographer does. The rest of the day only provides the framing to that central moment, that is the celebration of the rite in which the bride and groom, with different nuances depending case by case, celebrate and publicly promise their love to each other.
The art of a good wedding photographer lies in knowing how to capture the moments within the ceremony, without being in the way. Ideally, the photographer should be transparent during the ceremony (especially the religious ceremonies), disappearing and reappearing briefly and discreetly only when needed.
In addition to mastering the photographic technique, a good wedding photographer needs to have deep knowledge of the moments of the entire wedding ceremony (from start to end and everything in between) and a lot of experience, knowing where to stand, when and how to move. During the wedding ceremony everything the photographer does must have a reason. Wandering around randomly in search of photographic ideas is not an option for a photographer who wants to demonstrate skill and professionalism.
Photographic ideas should be grasped within the framework of what a photographer must do to represent the ceremony. ”Forward thinking”, a good eye for people and characters, being a good psychologist, be intuitive, think and act quickly are all skills needed to be a good ceremony photographer. When done well, photographing your wedding ceremony is a true art form within the art of photography.
