Vernazza Cinque Terre wedding. After a very long time I’m back updating the blog with a very short wedding (an elopement, as people like to say) where it was just me, the bride and groom Danielle and Mike, and the celebrant. However, it all took place in the context of the village of Vernazza, Cinque Terre, on a full summer day. Anyone who has been to the Cinque Terre even once, especially during summer, knows how to give a correct meaning to the terms ‘crowd’ and ‘crowded’. Vernazza, like all the Cinque Terre villages, is a landscape that from a graphic (and therefore photographic) point of view I would define as dense: houses, sea, land, sky, boats, people, all crammed into the same narrow space.
The photographic cut that I could give to this wedding in Vernazza, on the breakwater pier, could only be documentary. There are people all over the place, so let’s make them co-protagonists, rather going out of my way to try to exclude them from the pictures. A mix between wedding photography and street photography is what came out of it. On the other hand, if a couple takes a plane and flies in from a different continent to come and get married in Vernazza in the Cinque Terre, I’d better take photos that show what Vernazza really is and what their wedding, or rather: their Vernazza Cinque Terre wedding really was. Short but intense. And certainly very hot!
